The Exotic Shorthair is a cat breed specifically engineered to meet the demands of cat lovers. Many wanted the pretty face and sweet disposition of a Persian, without the super high-maintenance coat that needs constant grooming. The Exotic is a shorthaired Persian cat, sharing many of the Persians personality traits and breed-specific health problems.
Some Exotics may carry a recessive longhair gene. Should two of these cats breed together, there’s a 25% chance that their kittens may be longhaired. Hilariously, the Cat Fancier Association doesn’t recognize this offspring as a Persian.
Exotic Shorthairs are medium sized, with short legs, broad shoulders and chest, and a thick neck. Their coat is thick and dense, and slightly longer than most shorthaired breeds. They have very large heads, large eyes, and the typical flat Persian face. Exotics look soft and round, and kind of like a huggable teddy bear – which is perfect as they are generally an extremely affectionate cat.
